Muriwai Beach - the Last Day of November

West Auckland features some amazing black sand beaches. We have visited most of them at this point and I have posted many of the pics we took there (Piha, Karekare, Anawhata). Last Sunday we went to Muriwai Beach. It is our friends' - Leah and Ben's (and seemed like the whole Auckland population's) favorite beach.

I have seen some amazing pics of Muriwai Beach on line. And I read that the beach is one of the most ruggedly, picturesque wilderness beaches in New Zealand.

And yet, when we went there last week, all I experienced were loud and annoying crowds of people.

We did not stay too long but the time we were there was well spent. E rolled in the sand:

He dug himself a pit, filled it up with water, and wallowed in it.

He made a new friend too.

We might give Muriwai another chance some time in the future... Apparently, the beach is quite desolate on weekdays.
