Mt. Eden - December 2009

"Mount Eden" in Maori is "Maungawhau" which means "the mountain of the Whau tree".

According to Wikipedia, this dormant eponymous volcano measures 196 metres above sea level and is the highest natural point on the Auckland isthmus. Its majestic bowl-like crater is 50 metres deep. The volcano erupted several times resulting in a series of craters, with the last eruption about 15,000 years ago.

E and I took Grandma and Grandpa to see the crater one afternoon when Eric was busy at work. The day was chilly and windy so Grandpa opted to stay in the car while Grandma, E, and I went for a walk around the crater and "scored" some nice views of the city.

On our way back home, we stopped at the Viaduct Harbour and had a drink while admiring its residents: the yachts.
